Alpha Chapter was founded at the University of Virginia on March 1, 1868.  The chapter was closed on April 15, 2024.

Beta Chapter was founded at Davidson College on March 1, 1869. The chapter closed that same year, but was reopened in 1894 and remained active until 2012.

Gamma Chapter was founded at the College of William and Mary on February 27, 1871. The chapter closed in 1878, was reopened from 1894 but remained open for only a year, closing again in 1895. The chapter reopened for a second time in 1897 and remained active until 2019.

Delta Chapter was founded at Birmingham-Southern College on June 6, 1871. The chapter closed in 1873, but reopened in 1905 and remained active until 1970.

Epsilon Chapter was founded at Virginia Tech University on November 11, 1873. The chapter closed in 1880, reopened in 1971 and remained open until 1994. The chapter reopened for a second time in 2000 and remains active to this day.

Zeta Chapter was founded at the University of Tennessee on March 23, 1874, but closed the following year. The chapter reopened briefly in 1886, but closed again in 1887. Zeta Chapter reopened a second time in 1892 and remained active until 2014. The chapter was reopened for a third time in 2018.

Eta Chapter was founded at Tulane University on January 14, 1879. The chapter closed in 1881, but reopened in 1903 and remained open until 2008.

Theta Chapter was founded at Rhodes College on October 21, 1878.  The chapter was closed on April 15, 2024.

Iota Chapter was founded at Hampden-Sydney College on November 14, 1885. The chapter closed in 2012, but reopened in 2015.

Kappa Chapter was founded at Transylvania University on May 1, 1888, but closed the following year. The chapter reopened in 1900 and remains active to this day.

Lambda Chapter was founded at The Citadel: The Military College of South Carolina on January 24, 1889. The chapter closed in 1900.

Mu Chapter was founded at Presbyterian College on December 9, 1890. The chapter closed in 1909, but reopened in 1921.

Nu Chapter was founded at Wofford College on February 23, 1891. The chapter closed in 1906, but reopened in 1951.

Xi Chapter was founded at the University of South Carolina on October 22, 1891. The chapter closed in 1897, but reopened in 1928 and remained open until 1972. Xi Chapter reopened for a second time in 1975 and remained active until 2002. The chapter reopened again, for a third time, in 2007.

Omicron Chapter was founded at the University of Richmond on October 23, 1891. The chapter closed in 1893, but reopened again in 1901 and remained active until 2006.  Omicron Chapter reopened on April 19, 2024.

Pi Chapter was founded at Washington and Lee University on February 4, 1892. The chapter closed in 1898, but reopened in 1901.

Rho Chapter was founded at Cumberland College on May 12, 1892. The chapter closed in 1908.

Sigma Chapter was founded at Vanderbilt University on September 23, 1893, but closed shortly after in 1895. The chapter reopened in 1897 and remained active until 1906. Sigma Chapter reopened a second time in 1921 and remained active until 2012. The chapter opened again, for a third time, in 2016.

Tau Chapter was founded at the University of North Carolina on February 11, 1895. The chapter closed in 1897, but reopened in 1899.

Upsilon Chapter was founded at Auburn University on April 5, 1895.

Phi Chapter was founded at Roanoke College on October 15, 1896. The chapter closed in 1909, but was reopened in 2001.

Chi Chapter was founded at Sewanee: The University of the South on May 6, 1898. The chapter closed in 1909.

Psi Chapter was founded at the University of North Georgia on March 1, 1900. The chapter was closed in 1933, but reopened from 1998-2018. The chapter reopened as  a provisional chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha at the University of North Georgia in April 2022 and was rechartered on April 6, 2024.

Omega Chapter was founded at the University of Kentucky on June 5, 1901. The chapter closed in 2016 and reopened in 2018.

Alpha Alpha Chapter was founded at Duke University on November 26, 1901.

Alpha Beta Chapter was founded at Centenary College on March 8, 1902, but closed shortly after in 1904. The chapter reopened in 1947 and remained active until 1952.

Alpha Gamma Chapter was founded at Louisiana State University on December 11, 1902.

Alpha Delta Chapter was founded at Georgia Tech on February 20, 1904.

Alpha Epsilon Chapter was founded at North Carolina State University on October 31, 1904. The chapter closed in 2014. The chapter reopened in 2019 and closed 8 months later in August, 2019.  A provisional chapter was established in November 2023.

Alpha Zeta Chapter was founded at the University of Arkansas on November 2, 1904. The chapter closed in 1994, but reopened in 2000.

Alpha Eta Chapter was founded at the University of Florida on November 17, 1904. The chapter closed in 2000, but reopened the following year in 2001.

Alpha Mu Chapter was founded at the University of Georgia on January 25, 1908. The chapter closed in 1915, but reopened in 1930.

Alpha Nu Chapter was founded at the University of Missouri on December 15, 1909.  The chapter was active until October 2021 when the Supreme Council accepted the surrender of Alpha Nu Chapter's charter.

Beta Nu Chapter was founded at Oregon State University on May 12, 1920. The chapter closed in 1936, but reopened in 1947 and remained active until 2000. The chapter then reopened for a second time in 2009, but closed in 2012. Beta Nu Chapter reopened for a third time in 2017.

Beta Xi Chapter was founded at the University of Wisconsin on May 14, 1920. The chapter closed in 1962, but reopened from 1980-1994. Beta Xi Chapter reopened for a second time in 2005

Beta Omicron Chapter was founded at the University of Oklahoma on September 24, 1920. The chapter closed in 2014. The chapter then reopened in 2019.
