Linza Talmadge Whiddon served in the U.S. Army, First Lieutenant, 57th Infantry Regiment, Philippine Scouts during World War II. He was captured at the fall of Bataan on April 9, 1942, and then was a prisoner of the Japanese for two years. He was killed on September 7, 1944, when the Japanese prison ship on which he was being transported from Mindanao to Manila was sunk by U.S. Forces. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Prisoner of War Medal and Purple Heart.
