Charles D. Seward served in the U.S. Army Air Service as a First Lieutenant with the 139th Aerial Squadron, 2nd Pursuit Group, First United States Army during World War I. He was killed on April 6, 1918, when his aeroplane went into a tailspin and crashed in France.
