Randolph T. Scoggan served in the U.S. Navy Air Force as an Ensign with the Fighter Squadron 121 during the Korean War as a pilot of a F9F-5 Panther Jet fighter aboard the carrier U.S.S Oriskany (CV-9). On April 20, 1953, while on a mission over North Korea, his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft, started an uncontrolled climb, then crashed into the sea 10 miles east of the Hodo-Pando Peninsula. He was listed as missing in action and was presumed dead on July 2, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial, Hawaii. He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Gold Stars, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
