Purvis, ENS Roy Wallingford

Roy W. Purvis served in the U.S. Navy Reserve as an Ensign during World War II. On June 6, 1942, while serving as an engine room officer on a destroyer at the Battle of Midway, he was thrown into the water when a torpedo struck his vessel. He was buried at sea and is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at Honolulu Memorial. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
