Shiffer, LT Steward Thomas

Steward T. Shiffer served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a First Lieutenant with the 561st Bomb Squadron, 388th Bomb Group (Heavy), 8th Air Force during World War II. A Bombardier on a B-17G Fortress (#42-102559), he died on February 26, 1945, when the aircraft was damaged in action over Berlin and crashed in Etrange, France. He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and Purple Heart.
