Robert Nellor served in the U.S. Navy as Aviation Ordnanceman Second Class during World War II. He was killed in action off Makin Atoll (Kiribati, Gilbert Islands) when the USS Lipscombe Bay was torpedoed on November 24, 1943. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
