Elwynn Mannhart served in the U.S. Army, in the American Expeditionary Forces Division of Surgery, Mobile Operating Unit #1 during World War I. He died of lobar pneumonia in France on September 25, 1918. He had served on ambulance duty at the front near Chaumont, France.
