John McTiernan, Jr. served in the U.S. Army as a Captain with Company B, 361st Infantry Regiment, 91st Infantry Division during World War II. He was wounded by enemy fire in North Africa on September 14, 1944 and died in the hospital from his wounds on September 17, 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
