William Long, Jr served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a First Lieutenant with the 1st Marine Regiment, 4.2 Mortar Company, 1st Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force during the Korean War. He was killed on October 10, 1952 when the Navy Beechcraft plane he was in crashed near New Orleans, Louisiana. Lieutenant Long had initially been wounded in Korea on June 17, 1951.
