Hurt, CAPT David Albert

David Hurt served in the U.S. Navy as a Captain and Commanding Officer on the Submarine USS Perch during World War II. He died on November 23, 1945 in a hunting accident after having survived Prisoner of War Camp 2-B Kawasaki, Tokyo, Japan. Captain Hurt was Commanding Office of the USS Perch when it was sunk by a depth charge attack on March 3, 1942, and he and his crew were able to escape the submarine, but were captured by the Japanese. While in captivity, Captain Hurt was known as a "father figure" to younger officers. He received the following awards: Purple Heart, Navy Commendation Medal, Submarine Combat Pin with 2/Stars, Prisoner of War Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.
