James Garrett served in the U.S. Army Air Forces as a Captain in the 20th Pursuit Squadron, 24th Pursuit Group during World War II. He was captured in the Philippines and died on October 24, 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart and is memorialized on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
