William R. Singletary served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a First Lieutenant with the 52nd Service Squadron, 330th Service Group during World War II. He was killed on September 24, 1943, when his Aeronca L-3C (#43-1480) stalled, spun out of control and crashed at the Pendleton Army Airfield, Oregon.
