Dorrance Merriam served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant, possibly in radio service with a French troop. He died on May 19, 1945 of injuries suffered in a vehicle accident in Germany. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation and Army Good Conduct Medal.
