Simpson Hollabaugh served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a First Lieutenant in the 39th AAF Fighter Squadron, 35th Fighter Group during World War II. A fighter pilot, he died on November 29, 1943 in a plane crash. He flew a total of 59 combat missions, with 166:10 combat hours and 167:40 hours of flying time in the Southwest Pacific area.
