Nelson Lancaster served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant (Junior Grade) during World War II. A Fighter Pilot, he died on May 8, 1945 when his plane was shot down by the Japanese over the Pacific Ocean near Oahu, Hawaii. His body was never recovered. He is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii.
