Eugene Korecki served in the U.S. Army as a Captain in Company B, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, 4th Battalion during the Vietnam War. An Infantry Unit Commander, he died on February 3, 1968 when the armored personnel carrier he was in was hit by an anti-tank missile near Cu Chi, Binh Duong Province, about 80 miles from Saigon. They had driven into a 3-sided ambush, and Captain Korecki was shot and killed. His tour began on Feb 4, 1967.
