Thomas M. Vaughn served in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a Lieutenant Junior Grade during World War II. A Pilot of a TBF-1 Avenger torpedo bomber, he was killed on January 29, 1944, when he drowned in the South Pacific after a plane crash immediately after take-off.
