David H. Stoppelwerth served in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant with A Company, 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry, 25th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War. He was killed in combat on January 18, 1970, in the Hau Nghia Province, South Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
