Jean Jackson served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant in the 41st Fighter Squadron, 35th Fighter Group during World War II. A fighter Pilot, he was killed in action on September 5, 1942 when his plane crashed and burned near the Solomon Islands while returning to his base in Port Morsby after a combat mission to Buna, New Guinea. He was awarded the Silver Star, Air Medal, and Purple Heart.
