Woodrow Hunter served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant Special Agent in the Counter Intelligence Corps, Headquarters, Force Field Engineering, during World War II. He was killed on May 18, 1944 while on a landing craft at Wake Island in the Pacific during the invasion of Saipan. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
