Robert D. Unrue served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist Rank 4 with the Infantryman, Company D, 4th Battalion, 12th Infantry, 199th Light Infantry Brigade during the Vietnam War. On May 18, 1970, he was at a fire support base in Binh Thuy Province, when he reported to a medic station complaining of a choking sensation. While enroute to the 24th Evacuation Hospital at Long Binh, he apparently went into anaphylactic shock from an allergic reaction and died. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
