Richard Goss served in the U.S. Air Force as a Captain and pilot with the 1st Air Commando Squadron, 2nd Air Division, 34th Tactical Group, 13th Air Force during the Vietnam War. An advisor to the South Vietnamese Air Force, he was flying his Douglas A-1 Skyraider bomber when he was shot down near the Bien Hoa Air Base in South Vietnam.
