John M. Troyer served in the U.S. Air Force as a First Lieutenant with the 559th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 12th Tactical Fighter Wing, 7th Air Force during the Vietnam War. A Phantom II pilot, he was killed in action on December 6, 1966, in a plane crash in Ninh Thuan Province, South Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
