A. Dean Young served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant with the 323rd Bombardment Squadron, 91st Bombardment Group (Heavy), 8th Air Force, during World War II. A Navigator on a B-17 Flying Fortress (#43-97234), he was killed in action on November 2, 1944, when, on a bombing mission to Merseburg, Germany, his aircraft crashed during engagement with enemy aircraft near Barby, Germany.
