Kelly Fite, Jr. served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant in the 409th Infantry Regiment, 103rd Infantry Division during World War II. He was killed in action in Germany on March 21, 1945. Lieutenant Fite was awarded the Purple Heart.
