Alva McEwen, Jr. served with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Lieutenant and Student Pilot at 2516th Air Base Unity, Eagle Pass Army Air Field during World War II. He was killed on July 12, 1944 in a night combat training flight crash twenty miles southeast of Eagle Pass Army Air Field, Texas where he was stationed for training.
