Anthonly Hartley served in the U.S. Army Air Forces as a First Lieutenant in the 389th Bomber Squadron, 312th Bomber Group, Light, during World War II. He was killed in action on February 21, 1944 in Port Moresby, New Guinea. He was buried at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Manila, Philippines.
