James Latimer served with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Captain in the 777th Bomber Squadron, 464th Bomber Group, Heavy, during World War II. A pilot, he was killed in action on May 10, 1944 when his plane was shot down by anti-aircraft fire over Austria. He was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
