Robert E. Sherwood served in the U.S. Army as a Captain with the Quartermaster Corps during World War II. He died on June 21, 1943, while stationed in the Panama Canal Zone after contracting rabies from a dog bite. He is buried in the Corozal American Cemetery and Memorial, Corozal, Republic of Panama.
