Samuel McGee III served in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer Third Class with the Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Marine Division, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division during the Vietnam War. A Medical Corpsman serving with Hospital Medic Company 3, he died on September 6, 1967 from wounds suffered during Operation SWIFT in the Que Son Valley, south of Da Nang, Vietnam.
