Orville Everitt, Jr. served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a First Lieutenant in the 100th Bomb Group, 349th Squadron, 8th Air Force during World War II. He piloted the B-17G Flying Fortress "Mud in Yer Eye" a.k.a. "Terrible Termite" (42-97834). On September 11, 1944, he was shot down on a raid to Chemitz by Luftwaffe fighters and crashed at Schuiedeberg, Germany. Only three aircraft from the raid returned to base.
