Winston T. Robinson served in the U.S. Army as a Captain with Battery C, 2nd Battalion, 20th Artillery, 1st Cavalry Division during the Vietnam War. He was killed in action on September 6, 1967, when the tail rotor of the helicopter he was piloting was shot off, causing him to lose control of the aircraft. He maneuvered clear of troop-carrying helicopters and continued firing on the enemy before he crashed. He was awarded Air Medal, Bronze Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
