Ray E. Wells served in the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel with the 13th Bomb Squadron, 3rd Bomb Wing during the Korean War. The pilot of a B-26B Invader bomber, he disappeared on May 31, 1952, when, while on a night intruder mission, he was blinded by a Soviet searchlight and crashed. He was listed as presumed dead on December 3, 1953. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial, Hawaii. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart.
