Frank Lyons served in the U.S. Navy as an Ensign on the Aircraft Carrier USS Cabot during World War II. He was killed in action on November 25, 1944 when the USS Cabot was attacked by kamikaze aircraft in the South Pacific near the Philippines. He received the Silver Star, Purple Heart, and Air Service Medal. He is memorialized in the Tablets of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Philippines.
