Jack Grider served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant at X Corps Headquarters, Headquarters Company, 5th Light Air Section during the Korean War. On January 11, 1952, Lieutenant Grider, a veteran of World War II, was piloting a light oberservation aircraft when it crashed on take-off near Ponglwong Choi, North Korea.
