Scott M. Verner served in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 4 with the 205th Aviation Company (ASHC, the Geronimos), 11th Aviation Battalion, 12th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade during the Vietnam War. A gunner on a Chinook helicopter CH-47A (#64-13161), he was killed in action on August 30, 1969, when his helicopter suddenly flipped over at an altitude of about 200 feet and crashed in Bien Hoa Province. He had been delivering a load of supplies for Australian forces near Saigon.
