Melville Adams served in the U.S. Army as a Captain in Headquarters Company, of the 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was killed in action while fighting the enemy along the eastern shore of the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. Adams was awarded the following: Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
