Nenad Kovechevich served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a First Lieutenant in the 323rd Bomber Squadron, 91st Bomber Group, Heavy, during World War II. He died on May 8, 1944 when his B-17 Flying Fortress was shot down over Osnabrück, Germany. He was returning after dropping a bomb load over Berlin. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and Purple Heart.
