George R. Salisbury served in the U.S. Air Force as a Major with the 370th Bomb Squadron, 307th Bomb Wing during the Korean War. A veteran of World War II with 50 combat missions and another 48 in Korea, he was a crew member on a B-29A Superfortress Bomber that took off from Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan, on December 4, 1951. Shortly after take off, an engine failed and the aircraft crashed, killing nine crew members. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
