William R. Watkins III served in the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel with the 333rd Fighter Squadron during the Iraq War. An F-15E Weapons System Officer, he was bombing enemy positions in Tikrit, Iraq, on April 7, 2003, when his F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft went down.
