Richard Dent served in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant in Company C, 407th Infantry Regiment, 102nd Infantry Division in World War II. He killed in action on December 2, 1944 when he was shot by a sniper in the Battle of the Bulge. He is buried at the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
