Roland H. Schaefer served in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 13th Armored Regiment, 10th Armored Division during World War II. He was killed in action on February 2, 1943, when his regiment was dive-bombed while moving to attack in the battle for Tunisia (near Gafso) in North Africa.
