Joshua Meadows served with the U.S. Marine Corps as a Captain with the 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command during the Afghanistan War and Operation Enduring Freedom. He was killed in action on September 5, 2009 while supporting combat operations in Koshan, Afghanistan.
