Lt. Colonel Elbert P. Tuttle Photograph, 1940

Although offered a non-combat staff position during World War II, former National President Elbert Tuttle refused as long as so many young men whom he knew and loved, including his son and nephew, were serving in active combat. Instead, he saw action in the Pacific theater and took part in the invasions of Guam, Leyte Gulf, and Okinawa. This photograph was featured on page 50 of the September 1996 issue of The Shield and Diamond.
