Robert Harris served in the U.S. Marine Corps, as a Captain and Company Commander in Company B, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force during the Vietnam War. He was killed in action by small arms fire on May 22, 1968 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
