Je Helt served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant in B Company, 31st Infantry, 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was killed in an ambush on November 28, 1950 at Chosin Reservoir, Korea. He earned the following awards: the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea of War Service Medal.
