Robert Grimes served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a First Lieutenant with the 653rd Bomb Squadron, 25th Bomb Group during World War II. He was killed in action on November 6, 1944 when his P-38 crashed over England in a night storm on his 52nd combat mission.
