Lukas Dachs served in the U.S. Navy as a Captain and Executive Officer in Transport Squadron (VR) Eight. Ensign Dachs, United States Navy Reserve, was designated Naval Aviator #6715 in 1940. He entered active service in the pre-war Aviation Cadet (AVCAD) program. On February 28, 1959, U. S. Navy Commander Dachs was killed along with four others, when a C-121 transport on a training flight crashed near Prescott, Arizona. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of Captain due to war-time service.
