Lucian Barnhill served in the United States Army as First Lieutenant during World War II in the 10th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division. He was wounded in action on December 6, 1944 in Germany in line of battle with General Patton's Third Army. He died on December 20, 1944 at the 30th Field Hospital in France. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
